EU ETS Phase II emissions trading auction - applications for
primary participants opened.
Defra have announced that organisations can now apply to become
primary participants in the UK’s auctions for Phase II
of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). This will be the
first time EU Allowances (EUA's) will have been auctioned in
the UK and the UK government has decided that 7% of the UK's
EUA's (out of the maximum of 10% allowed under EU rules) will
be auctioned.
Primary participants can bid directly for allowances and will
act as intermediaries in the competitive element of the auctions,
collecting and submitting bids on behalf of indirect bidders
who wish to take part in the auction.
Further information and details of how an organisation can
become a primary participant can be found on the Defra website
